Our daughter suffered from severe OCD that completely disrupted her daily life. Just getting out of bed in the morning could take a long time — she had to sit up and lie back down 20 times before she could actually get up. There was even a time she had an accident because she couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time. She avoided going out because she had to fasten and unfasten her seatbelt exactly 50 times before starting the car, which was incredibly distressing and embarrassing, especially when with friends. She was also washing her hands constantly — her skin became red, raw, and painful. We were reluctant to start her on medication, especially since she was still studying at university and didn’t want to feel "drugged out." Thankfully, our private psychiatrist referred us to Advanced Aotearoa — the only clinic in New Zealand currently offering TMS treatment specifically for OCD. Their team worked closely with our psychiatrist and psychologist to create a joint care plan that truly worked. The results have been amazing. This has been the most incredible, life changing treatment and I couldn’t be more grateful to the team. I was skeptical of the treatment at first but I had nothing to lose and no life left in me to continue after 7 years of critical depression. I opted for the 3 month Ketamine therapy programme.

The first day I went in there I was lifeless, numb, hopeless and ready to give up. This was my final attempt, surviving on 300mg of Venlafaxine to keep me alive, but every day I did wake brought excruciating dread to me, constant thoughts of not wanting to continue this life, hating myself, blaming myself for everything, I was my worse enemy.

Today I am filled with love for life, I have energy, I don’t wish myself dead everyday, and with ongoing support and therapy I am learning to love myself which is something I couldn’t have ever imagined for myself.
